Regular Season Round 17: H.R. Le-Zion - Maccabi Ashdod 77-75

The most exciting game of round 17 in the D1 took place in Rishon Le-Zion. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Maccabi Ashdod (12-5) to tenth ranked Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (4-13) 77-75 on Monday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. Nigerian-American forward Atonye Nyingifa (180-90, college: UCLA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American power forward Tori Jarosz (190-92, college: Marist, agency: Gamble Sports Management) chipped in 24 points and 13 rebounds. Jarosz is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion players scored in double figures. American power forward Tiffany Jackson (191-85, college: Texas) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Chelsea Hopkins (173-90, college: San Diego St.) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion moved-up to ninth place. Defending champion Maccabi Ashdod keeps the second position with five games lost. They share it with Maccabi R.Hen. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion are looking forward to face higher ranked Bnot Hertzeliya (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maccabi Ashdod will play against B.Yehuda (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
