Regular Season Round 16: Breidablik - IA 99-85
Date: January 15, 2018
Bottom-ranked IA (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 99-85 loss to second ranked Breidablik (11-3) in Kopavogur. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Breidablik. IA was better in third quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to IA's 48. Breidablik had a 39-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. The winners were led by American guard Jeremy Smith (190, college: Nicholls St.) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Erlendur Stefansson (190-95, college: Black Hills St.) supported him with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Breidablik players scored in double figures. Even 40 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 9 assists (made all of his eight free throws) by American point guard Marcus Dewberry (183, college: St.Leo, agency: Aspire Sports) did not help to save the game for IA. Forward Sigurdur Sigurdsson (198-88) added 18 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Breidablik have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-3 record behind leader Skallagrimur. IA at the other side still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Breidablik's next round opponent will be league's leader Skallagrimur in Borganes and it will be for sure the game of the week. IA will play against Vestri (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
