Regular Season Round 16: Al Ahli - Al Shamal 74-101

Bottom-ranked Al Shamal managed to get a second victory, breaking the four-game losing streak on Tuesday night. This time they outleveled eighth-ranked Al Ahli in Doha 101-74. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 27-point difference proves that Al Shamal was well-prepared to that game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 34. They outrebounded Al Ahli 41-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Al Shamal looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Justin Monroe (196-87, college: Morehouse) fired 30 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. DR Congolese-American swingman Moses Ehambe (198-86, college: ORU) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Serbian-FYR Macedonian forward Nenad Zivcevic (203-87, agency: Mansfield and Associates) produced 24 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian center Nemanja Besovic (221-92) added 20 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Al Shamal (2-12) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with defeated Al Ahli. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. Al Shamal will meet higher ranked Al Khor (#7) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Rayyan.
