Regular Season Round 16: Skallagrimur - Snaefell 72-81
Date: January 17, 2018
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Snaefell (6-10) beat 6th ranked Skallagrimur (7-9) in Borganes 81-72. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-11. But Skallagrimur won second period 22-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Snaefell well out of reach of Skallagrimur shooting 72.8 percent from the field and made 75-of-83 charity shots (90.4 percent) during the game. Strangely Skallagrimur outrebounded Snaefell 137-91 including a 52-33 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 42 long-distance shots on high 66.7 percentage. Snaefell players were unselfish on offense dishing 42 assists. Skallagrimur was plagued by 39 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Kristen McCarthy (180-90, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 37 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and international forward Berglind Gunnarsdottir (175-93) who added 17 points during the contest. Snaefell's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) responded with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and the former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88) scored 6 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Snaefell maintains seventh position with 6-10 record. Skallagrimur at the other side keeps the sixth place with nine games lost. Snaefell will play against league's second-placed Haukar in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Skallagrimur will play on the road against the league's leader Valur (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
