Regular Season Round 16: Stjarnan - Breidablik 72-63

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Stjarnan and 5th ranked Breidablik had identical 8-7 record. This time Stjarnan used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Kopavogur 72-63. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-15. But Breidablik won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stjarnan well out of reach of Breidablik shooting 71.7 percent from the field and made 98-of-101 charity shots (97.0 percent) during the game. Stjarnan forced 24 Breidablik turnovers and outrebounded them 128-101 including a 82-62 advantage in defensive rebounds. Stjarnan shot the lights out from three nailing 33 long-distance shots on high 71.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Breidablik was plagued by 39 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and the former international center Ragna Brynjarsdottir (188-90) who added 14 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Ivory Crawford (178-92, college: Illinois) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and center Sollilja Bjarnadottir (171-95) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Stjarnan maintains fourth position with 9-7 record. Newly promoted Breidablik keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Stjarnan will play against bottom-ranked Njardvik (#8) on the road in the next round. Breidablik will play against Keflavik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
