Regular Season Round 16: Haukar - Njardvik 87-55
Date: January 17, 2018
Bottom-ranked Njardvik is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to second ranked Haukar (11-5) 87-55. The game without a history. Haukar led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They were well out of reach of Njardvik shooting 77.1 percent from the field and made 90-of-93 charity shots (96.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Njardvik 136-91 including a 50-35 advantage in offensive rebounds. Haukar shot the lights out from three nailing 32 long-distance shots on high 65.3 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 43 assists comparing to just 30 passes made by Njardvik's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Njardvik was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Whitney Frazier (180-92, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Two Points) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists and international point guard Thora Jonsdottir (171-97) who added 12 points and 9 assists during the contest. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. At the losing side American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and guard Hrund Skuladottir (175-0) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Haukar have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-5 record behind leader Valur, which they share with Keflavik. Njardvik at the other side still closes the standings. Haukar will play against Snaefell (#7) in Stykkisholmur in the next round where they are favorite. Njardvik will play at home against Stjarnan and hopes to get finally their first victory.
