Regular Season Round 19: Saldus - Liepajas SSS 67-63

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Liepajas SSS (6-7) lost on the road to sixth ranked Saldus (4-9) 67-63 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 67-63. Saldus made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game, while Liepajas SSS only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Liepajas SSS 53-27 including a 22-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for guard Raivita Korenika (180-1) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds. Forward Anete Bluma (178-0) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Armenian forward Inga Manucharyan (176-0) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Paula Klescova (179-1) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Liepajas SSS. Four Liepajas SSS players scored in double figures. Liepajas SSS's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Saldus maintains sixth place with 4-9 record. Loser Liepajas SSS keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Saldus will face higher ranked Daugavpils Universitate (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
