Regular Season Round 17: Al Khor - Al Shamal 86-79

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Al Shamal (2-13) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Al Khor (4-11) 86-79 on Saturday. American center Khobi Williamson (201-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward DJ Blackmon (201-90, college: Lenoir-Rhyne) chipped in 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. DR Congolese-American swingman Moses Ehambe (198-86, college: ORU) responded with 24 points and 6 rebounds and American guard Justin Monroe (196-87, college: Morehouse) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Khor maintains seventh place with 4-11 record. Loser Al Shamal stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with Al Ahli. Al Khor will meet higher ranked Al Rayyan (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
