Regular Season Round 15: Arxil Pontev. - Oviedo 76-61

Bottom-ranked Oviedo (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 76-61 loss to seventh ranked Arxil Pontevedra (9-6) in Pontevedra on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-61. Arxil Pontevedra forced 20 Oviedo turnovers and outrebounded them 49-33 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Arantxa Mallou (181-91) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Serbian power forward Jelena Budimir (192-85, college: Bethel, TN) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Four Arxil Pontevedra players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Tania Soto who recorded 11 points and 6 rebounds and American-Nigerian Cecilia Okoye (185-91, college: McNeese St.) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Arxil Pontevedra. They moved-up to sixth place in Group A, which they share with Ensino. Oviedo lost their fifteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 15 games lost. Arxil Pontevedra will face league's leader Real Celta Vigo on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oviedo will play against Aros Patatas (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
