Regular Season Round 15: Hawks - 36ers 93-112

Date: January 21, 2018
Very expected game in Gwynneville where 6th ranked Illawarra Hawks (9-12) were crushed by second ranked Adelaide 36ers (15-8) 112-93 on Sunday. It was a great shooting night for Adelaide 36ers especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Illawarra Hawks were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). International swingman Mitch Creek (195-92) helped adding 21 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Demitrius Conger (196-90, college: St.Bonaventure) with 31 points and 5 rebounds and international power forward Nick Kay (206-92, college: Metro St.) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Adelaide 36ers. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Illawarra Hawks keep the sixth place with 12 games lost. Adelaide 36ers will face Bullets (#7) in Brisbane in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Illawarra Hawks will play at home against Cairns Taipans and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
