Regular Season Round 14: Ironi Nes-Ziona - Maccabi Haifa 74-71

A very interesting game took place in Nes Ziyona. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 10th ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-10) to eleventh ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (5-9) 74-71 in the fight for the tenth place. It looked good early as Maccabi Haifa took a 11-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ironi Nes-Ziona took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 3 points. Naturalized Welsh Tal-Michael Dunne (198-87, agency: Avi Zilberman) notched 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international point guard Naor Sharon (193-95) supported him with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Ironi Nes-Ziona's coach Nadav Zilberstein allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds by American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Mississippi) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Haifa. International Oz Blayzer (199-92) added 11 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ironi Nes-Ziona moved-up to tenth place. Maccabi Haifa lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with ten games lost. Ironi Nes-Ziona's next round opponent will be higher ranked Maccabi Rishon (#8) in Rishon Le-Zion and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Haifa will play at home against the league's leader Maccabi T-A and will have a slim chance for a victory.
