There was no surprise when 14th ranked Barca II (7-13) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Melilla Baloncesto (14-6) 71-54 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Melilla Baloncesto led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Melilla Baloncesto outrebounded Barca II 46-32 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Melilla Baloncesto made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Fran Guerra (214-92) who scored 14 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Javier Lucas (207-87) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. Melilla Baloncesto's coach Alejandro Alcoba used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Senegalese center Atoumane Diagne (215-98) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and Sergi Martinez (203-99) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Melilla Baloncesto have a solid four-game winning streak. Melilla Baloncesto moved-up to third place, which they share with Manresa and Oviedo. Loser Barca II keeps the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Melilla Baloncesto will face Palma (#16) in S'Arenal in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Barca II will play at home against Castello and hope to win that game.
