Regular Season Round 17: Njardvik - Stjarnan 64-86

Bottom-ranked Njardvik (0-17) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 17th consecutive match to fourth ranked Stjarnan (10-7) 86-64 on Wednesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Stjarnan. Njardvik managed to win second period 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Stjarnan shot 64.6 percent from the field and made 97-of-103 free shots (94.2 percent) during the game, while Njardvik only scored 75 points from the stripe. Stjarnan forced 21 Njardvik turnovers and outrebounded them 125-105 including a 77-66 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 49 long-distance shots on high 65.3 percentage. Stjarnan looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Stjarnan made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard Danielle Rodriguez (178-93, college: Utah) who had a triple-double by scoring 30 points, 19 rebounds and 17 assists. Swingman Briet Hinriksdottir (181-96) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and power forward Hulda Bergsteinsdottir (182-99) added 15 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Stjarnan maintains fourth place with 10-7 record. Njardvik lost their seventeenth game in a row. They still close the standings. Stjarnan will meet at home higher ranked Keflavik (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Njardvik will play against Snaefell (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
