Regular Season Round 31: Shandong GS - Xinjiang FT 116-105

There was no surprise in Jinan where 7th ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (19-12) was defeated by third ranked Golden Stars (22-9) 116-105. Golden Stars dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Xinjiang Flying Tige's 48. They outrebounded Xinjiang Flying Tige 55-41 including 21 on the offensive glass. Golden Stars players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a very good performance for American point guard Ty Lawson (180-87, college: N.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording 38 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian power forward Donatas Motiejunas (213-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American-Bulgarian point guard Darius Adams (188-89, college: Indianapolis, agency: Dutt Sports Services) answered with a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 11 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and Brazilian center Augusto Lima (207-91) added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Xinjiang Flying Tige. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Golden Stars. They maintain third place with 22-9 record having just three points less than leader Guangsha L., which they share with Guangdong ST. Defending champion Xinjiang Flying Tige dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Golden Stars' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Bayi Rockets (#20) in Ningbo which should be an easy win for them. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play on the road against Eagles (#16) in Qingdao and hope to win that game.
