Regular Season Round 18: FSU - IA 96-57
Date: January 25, 2018
Bottom-ranked IA (0-16) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to eighth ranked FSU (2-14) 96-57. The game was mostly controlled by FSU. IA was better in fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. FSU forced 29 IA turnovers. Strangely IA outrebounded FSU 107-26 including a 38-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. IA was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Ari Gylfason (186-89) notched 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and American forward Antowine Lamb (203-88, college: McPherson) supported him with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Four FSU players scored in double figures. Even 9 points and 8 rebounds by swingman Bjorn Brynjolfsson (192-82) did not help to save the game for IA. Jon Frimannsson added 5 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FSU maintains eighth position with 2-14 record. IA at the other side still closes the standings. FSU will play against league's leader Skallagrimur in Borganes in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. IA will play on the road against Fjolnir (#6) in Reykjavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
