There was no surprise when 12th ranked Joinville (4-11) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Caxias do Sul (9-6) 76-70 on Friday. It was a great evening for center Marcao Vinicius (205-84) who led his team to a victory scoring 12 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Pedro Mendonca (194-95) helped adding 12 points. The best for the losing side was point guard Jeferson Froehlich (193-91) with 7 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and guard Felipe Vezaro (193-92, college: Texas A&M Int.) scored 16 points. Caxias do Sul moved-up to sixth place. Loser Joinville keeps the twelfth position with 11 games lost. Caxias do Sul will meet higher ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Joinville will play against Vivo/Franca (#4) in Sao Paulo and hope to secure a win.
