No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked Rioja (8-8) beat 13th ranked Segle XXI (2-14) in Barcelona 63-50 on Saturday. Rioja dominated on the defensive end, holding Segle XXI to just 4 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Segle XXI 54-33 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American center Erika Livermore (185-93, college: Fair Dickinson) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Araia Pena contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Aixa Wone (184-0) replied with 13 points and 5 rebounds and Ana Gamarra added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Segle XXI. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Rioja have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place in Group A, which they share with Lima-Horta. Segle XXI lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. Rioja will face Oviedo (#14) at home in the next round where they are favorite.
