Rather predictable result in Hyvinkaa where fifth ranked HyPo (11-7) defeated 7th ranked Kouvottaret (7-11) 88-75 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 59-41 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. HyPo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American guard Candice Warthen (165-92, college: Arizona) scored 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Five HyPo players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Brittany Carter (183-93, college: Illinois) with 29 points and 7 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) and her fellow American import forward Layne Murphy (188, college: Chicago St.) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. HyPo have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Kouvottaret lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with 11 games lost. HyPo will face higher ranked Peli-Karhut (#3) in Kotka in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Kouvottaret will play at home against ViVe and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
