Regular Season Round 21: Toyota A. - Hitachi Cougars 84-65

Not a big story in a game in Nagoya where 8th ranked Hitachi Cougars (7-14) were rolled over by second ranked Toyota A. (17-4) 84-65. The game without a history. Toyota A. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 37-of-44 charity shots (84.1 percent) during the game, while Hitachi Cougars only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 43-31 including 20 on the offensive glass. Hitachi Cougars were plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and the former international forward Moeko Nagaoka (180-93) accounted for 22 points. Swingman Ishiguro Mutsumi (175-92) came up with 8 points and 6 rebounds and guard Runo Nishizawa (167-94) added 6 points and 5 assists respectively for Hitachi Cougars in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Toyota A.. They maintain second place with 17-4 record having just three points less than leader JX-Eneos S. Hitachi Cougars lost their third game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Haneda Vickies. Toyota A. will again play against Hitachi Cougars (#8) in Hitachinaka in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hitachi Cougars will have a break next round.
