Regular Season Round 16: Olimpico 64 - Valencia 48-78
Date: January 28, 2018
Everything went according to plan when second ranked Valencia (13-3) outplayed 12th ranked Olimpico 64 (3-13) in Madrid 78-48 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia. Olimpico 64 was better in second period 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Olimpico 64 to just 4 points in fourth quarter. It was a very good performance for Brazilian forward Isabela Ramona-Lyra (180-94) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Mali power forward Meiya Tirera (186-86, agency: ProDep Management) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Valencia players scored in double figures. Sara Gines replied with 12 points and 5 rebounds and Beatriz Parada (179-86) added 5 points in the effort for Olimpico 64. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Valencia have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain second position in Group B with 13-3 record having just three points less than leader Gran Canaria. Olimpico 64 lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth place with 13 games lost. Valencia will face Magec Tias (#8) in Las Palmas in the next round where they are favorite. Olimpico 64 will play on the road against Leganes (#3) and hope to win that game.
