Second ranked Toyama Grouses (17-15) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers San-en NeoPhoenix (14-18) 79-77 in the game for the second place. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Naoki Uto (188-91) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American Drew Viney (204-88, college: Loyola Mary) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Toyama Grouses' coach Miodrag Rajkovic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) replied with 14 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Robert Dozier (206-85, college: Memphis) added 11 points in the effort for San-en NeoPhoenix. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-15 record having nine points less than leader Ryukyu GK, which they share with Hokkaido L. and Tochigi Brex. San-en NeoPhoenix at the other side keeps the third place with 18 games lost. They share the position with Nagoya DD. Toyama Grouses will play against Hitachi Sunrockers (#4) in Tokyo in the next round. San-en NeoPhoenix will play at home against Diamond Dolphins and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
