Regular Season Round 22: Niigata R. - Denso Iris 64-77

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-22) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 77-64 loss to third ranked Denso Iris (17-5) in Tokyo. The game was mostly controlled by Denso Iris. Niigata R. was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Niigata R. 38-24 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Denso Iris players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Sakura Akaho (182-96) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Mirai Tamura (164-94) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Guard Ayaka Kogure (163-91) replied with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Umeki Chikako (175-90) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Niigata R.Four Niigata R. players scored in double figures. Niigata R.'s coach Tadaharu Ogawa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Denso Iris have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 17-5 record having four points less than leader JX-Eneos S. Niigata R. at the other side still closes the standings. Denso Iris will play against league's second-placed Toyota A. in Nagoya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Niigata R. will play on the road against Fujitsu RW (#6) in Kawasaki and hopes to get finally their first victory.
