Regular Season Round 18: Skallagrimur - Breidablik 66-57

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Borganes where sixth ranked Skallagrimur (8-10) defeated 5th ranked Breidablik (8-10) 66-57 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Breidablik won third quarter 22-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Skallagrimur shot 63.4 percent from the field and made 92-of-95 free shots (96.8 percent) during the game. Skallagrimur forced 26 Breidablik turnovers and outrebounded them 139-110 including a 53-38 advantage in offensive rebounds. Skallagrimur shot the lights out from three sinking 41 long-distance shots on high 78.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Skallagrimur made 8 blocks. Breidablik was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American swingman Carmen Tyson-Thomas (180-91, college: Syracuse, agency: Two Points) who had a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. The former international power forward Sigrun Amundadottir (181-88) chipped in 5 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Whitney Knight (190-93, college: FGCU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 5 blocks and forward Isabella Sigurdardottir (179-97) added 5 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Skallagrimur moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Breidablik. Breidablik lost fourth consecutive game. Skallagrimur will face higher ranked Keflavik (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Breidablik will play against the league's leader Haukar and hope to win that game.
