Regular Season Round 29: Lapua - Kouvot 99-72

Date: January 31, 2018
Bottom-ranked Lapuan Korikobrat managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the series of five consecutive losses. This time they outleveled sixth-ranked Kouvot 99-72. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 27-point difference suggests that Lapuan Korikobrat is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by Lapuan Korikobrat. Kouvot was better in fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lapuan Korikobrat shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. American point guard Stephen Croone (183-94, college: Furman) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners and Puerto Rican-American forward Christopher Ortiz (203-93, college: Kent St., agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Lapuan Korikobrat's coach Lars Ekstrom felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward Jamie Skeen (203-88, college: VCU) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Lapuan Korikobrat and five Kouvot players scored in double figures. Lapuan Korikobrat maintains eleventh place with 5-20 record. Kouvot lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. They share it with BC Nokia. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against league's leader Salon Vilpas at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Kouvot will have a break next round.
