Regular Season Round 29: Nova Ves - Handlova 91-73

Bottom-ranked Nova Ves managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the series of seven consecutive losses. This time they won against eighth-ranked Handlova 91-73. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 18-point difference proves that Nova Ves was well-prepared to that game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Handlova's 28. Nova Ves forced 19 Handlova turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Handlova's players. Handlova was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Matej Majercak (183-99) nailed 26 points and 5 assists for the winning side and Canadian forward Matt Marshall (198, college: Brock) accounted for 7 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Nova Ves' coach Erich Korfanta allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Montenegrin Ivan Zejak (203-87) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and American guard Marcus Tyus (185-94, college: Omaha) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Handlova in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Nova Ves (4-25) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Zilina. Handlova at the other side keeps the eighth position with 22 games lost. Nova Ves will play against bottom-ranked Zilina (#10) on the road in the next round. Handlova will play against Levice and hopes to get back on the winning track.
