Rather predictable result when third ranked Leiden (12-4) defeated at home 7th ranked Amsterdam (4-12) 82-69 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Leiden. Amsterdam managed to win second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leiden looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American center Clayton Vette (202-88, college: Winona St., agency: Court Side) had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Jessey Voorn (197-90, agency: Court Side) chipped in 22 points and 8 assists during the contest. Leiden's coach Paul Vervaeck used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Berend Weijs (207-88, college: Maryland) with 22 points and 6 rebounds and the former international point guard Aaron Roye (184-88) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 assists. Leiden maintains third position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Groningen. Amsterdam at the other side keeps the seventh place with 12 games lost. Leiden are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Weert (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Amsterdam will play against Rotterdam and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
