Regular Season Round 16: Thor AK - KR 69-92
Date: February 1, 2018
Very expected game in Akureyri where 11th ranked Thor AK (3-13) was crushed by second ranked KR (12-4) 92-69. The game without a history. KR led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 23 Thor AK turnovers. KR players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Quite impressive performance for international forward Kristofer Acox (198-93, college: Furman) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international guard Jon Stefansson (192-82) contributed with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Nino Johnson (206-93, college: SE Missouri St.) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import Marques Oliver (201-91, college: Delaware St.) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Thor AK. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Haukar and IR. Thor AK lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 13 games lost. KR's next round opponent will be Grindavik (#6) at home where they are favorite. Thor AK will play against Njardvik (#5) and hope to win that game.
