Regular Season Round 17: Korikouvot - Pyrinto II 67-70

The most exciting game of round 17 in the 1st Division took place in Kouvola. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Korikouvot (9-9) to sixth ranked Pyrinto II (10-7) 70-67 in the game for the sixth place. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-12. But Korikouvot won third quarter 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pyrinto II dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Korikouvot's 20. Pyrinto II forced 21 Korikouvot turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo, agency: Two Points) who scored 9 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Reda Bellagnaoui chipped in 15 points. Pyrinto II's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Benjamin Vanninen (198-99) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Kenneth Hall (201-93, college: W.Carolina) added 9 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Pyrinto II maintains sixth place in Division with 10-7 record. Korikouvot at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Pyrinto II are looking forward to face Porvoon Tarmo (#11) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Korikouvot will play against the league's second-placed Ura Basket (#2) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
