Regular Season Round 16: Haukar - Tindastoll 91-73

The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Haukar as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Haukar defeated one of their biggest challengers Tindastoll in Hafnarfjordur 91-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Tindastoll. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-73. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Tindastoll's 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Tindastoll helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, college: Drexel) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and 4 steals and guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) who added 15 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American forward Antonio Hester (198-90, college: Mobile, AL) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and international guard Petur Birgisson (185-96) scored 24 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with KR and IR. Tindastoll at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Tindastoll will play next round against Keflavik trying to get back on the winning streak. Haukar will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked Hottur in Egilsstadir.
