There was a small surprise in Villa Maria where twelfth ranked Union SF (11-13) defeated 9th ranked Ameghino (11-13) 130-124 on Friday. Union SF made 44-of-56 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game, while Ameghino only scored twenty four points from the stripe. Ameghino was plagued by 37 personal fouls down the stretch. Andres Mariani (188-87) fired 27 points and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Rodrigo Sanchez (200-89) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: Ouachita Baptist) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Juan-Luis Abeiro (196-88) added 25 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ameghino's coach Pablo Castro rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Union SF moved-up to tenth place in North, which they share with defeated Ameghino. Union SF will face higher ranked Hindu (#4) in Chaco in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
