There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (12-6) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Caxias do Sul (10-7) 85-73 on Friday. Caxias do Sul shot 25 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Paschoalotto/Bauru only scored eight points from the stripe. It was a great shooting night for Caxias do Sul especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Paschoalotto/Bauru was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Alexandre de-Souza (202-92) stepped up and scored 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and center Marcao Vinicius (205-84) chipped in 17 points. Four Caxias do Sul players scored in double figures. International guard Alex Garcia (191-80, agency: Interperformances) responded with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international center Rafael Hettsheimer (206-86) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Caxias do Sul moved-up to sixth place. Loser Paschoalotto/Bauru keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Caxias do Sul will face Minas (#10) in Belo Horizonte in the next round. Paschoalotto/Bauru will play at home against the league's second-placed Vivo/Franca (#2) and hope to win that game.
