Regular Season Round 17: Kagoshima - Toyoda Gosei 84-60

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Renova where 4th placed Toyoda Gosei (14-8) was rolled over by fifth ranked Kagoshima (11-11) 84-60 on Saturday. Kagoshima looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Chris Olivier (203-92, college: Oklahoma St.) stepped up and scored 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Darnell Martin (198-91, college: CS Dominguez H.) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Patrick Simon (203-92, college: Seattle Pacific) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Eiji Sumihiro (171-89) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kagoshima. They maintain fifth place with 11-11 record, which they share with Tokyo Excel. Loser Toyoda Gosei keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Kagoshima will face higher ranked Saitama Broncos (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toyoda Gosei will play against Tokyo Big Blue and hope to win that game.
