Regular Season Round 22: Azuqueca - Estudiantes B 83-70

Very expected game when 6th ranked Estudiantes B (8-7) was defeated on the road by first ranked Azuqueca (13-2) 83-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Azuqueca. Estudiantes B was better in fourth quarter 29-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Estudiantes B to just 5 points in first quarter. Azuqueca dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Estudiantes B's 26. Azuqueca had a 41-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Santiago Villena (193-94) scored 25 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Carlos Garcia (200-89) chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Villena is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Azuqueca players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ukrainian Andriy Grytsak (198-0) responded with 7 points and 16 rebounds and swingman Alex Tamayo (194-0) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Estudiantes B's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azuqueca maintains first position in Group B with 13-2 record, which they share with Real Madrid II. Loser Estudiantes B dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Azuqueca will face league's second-placed Real Madrid II on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Estudiantes B will play against Quintanar (#12) and hope to win that game.
