Regular Season Round 17: Flamengo - Paulistano 71-72

The most exciting game of round 17 in the NBB took place in Rio de Janeiro. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed Flamengo (13-3) to first ranked Paulistano (15-3) 72-71 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Flamengo. Bahamas forward David Nesbitt (200-91, college: St.Thomas, FL) stepped up and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international point guard Elio Corazza (193-89, college: Miami Dade CC) chipped in 5 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) responded with 37 points (!!!) and the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) scored 9 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Paulistano have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-3 record. Flamengo at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Mogi. Paulistano are looking forward to face Liga Sorocaba (#15) in Sorocabana in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Flamengo will play on the road against Joinville (#12) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
