Regular Season Round 17: Tokyo Cinq R. - Otsuka A. 108-115

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Tokyo: Otsuka A. (#3) and Tokyo Cinq R. (#8). Tokyo Cinq R. was defeated at home 108-115 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Otsuka A. dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Cinq R.'s 52. They outrebounded Tokyo Cinq R. 47-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. Otsuka A. looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Otsuka A. made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Kyle Richardson (201-91, college: Portland St.) who had a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Ryo Narumi (170-87) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) produced 43 points (!!!) and 6 assists and the other American import forward Drew Martin (203-94, college: Concordia, OR) added 29 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Otsuka A.. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Saitama Bron. Tokyo Cinq R. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 17 games lost. Otsuka A.'s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Tokyo HT.
