There was a small surprise in Villaviciosa where fourteenth ranked Casvi (4-11) beat 12th ranked Lanzarote (5-11) 85-77 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-18. But Lanzarote won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Casvi made 10 blocks. Alfonso Ortiz (190-99) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American-Nigerian guard Deji Ibitayo (193-93, college: Akron, agency: Duran International) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Casvi's coach Jose Antonio Sanchez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Bosnian center Andrej Tomic (213-92, college: Co.Georgia) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Jarad Scott (203-95, college: Union, TN) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Five Casvi and four Lanzarote players scored in double figures. Casvi maintains fourteenth position in Group B with 4-11 record. Loser Lanzarote dropped to the thirteenth place with 11 games lost. Casvi will face higher ranked Almansa (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
