Regular Season Round 8: Chargers - Pirates 60-90

Another interesting game was again a derby match of two teams from Nassau: Pirates (#3) and Chargers (#5). Chargers were smashed at home by 30 points 60-90 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Pirates dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Chargers' 36. They outrebounded Chargers 47-36 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pirates players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American Dominique Fernander (, college: Hobart) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import forward Craig Smith (201-83, college: Boston Coll.) chipped in 18 points. Four Pirates players scored in double figures. Pirates' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alexander Bullard produced 26 points and 6 rebounds and Randy Miller added 17 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Pirates have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 5-4 record having four points less than leader Rockets. Newly promoted Chargers still closes the standings with ten games lost. Pirates' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Nassau Giants.
