Regular Season Round 19: Iberostar Tener. - Burgos 84-76
Date: February 3, 2018
Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Burgos (6-13) lost to seventh ranked CB Canarias (11-8) in Tenerife 76-84 on Saturday. The game without a history. CB Canarias led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Quite impressive performance for the former international center Fran Vazquez (209-83) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Polish swingman Mateusz Ponitka (196-93) contributed with 15 points, 6 assists and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and American-Georgian point guard Corey Fisher (186-88, college: Villanova) added 13 points in the effort for Burgos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. CB Canarias maintains seventh place with 11-8 record, which they share with Gran Canaria. Newly promoted Burgos keeps the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. CB Canarias will face league's leader Real Madrid on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Burgos will play against the league's second-placed Valencia Basket (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
