Regular Season Round 23: Niigata Albirex - Yokohama BC 81-86

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Niigata Albirex (13-21) lost at home to sixth ranked Yokohama BC (9-25) 86-81 on Saturday. Yokohama BC forced 20 Niigata Albirex turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international guard Takuya Kawamura (193-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Tanzanian center Hasheem Thabeet (218-87, college: Connecticut) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Five Yokohama BC players scored in double figures. American Davante Gardner (203-91, college: Marquette) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import power forward Lamont Hamilton (208-84, college: St.John's) added 20 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Niigata Albirex's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Yokohama BC maintains sixth place with 9-25 record. Loser Niigata Albirex keeps the fifth position with 21 games lost. Yokohama BC will face Shimane Magic (#6) at home in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against the league's second-placed Kyoto Hannar. and hope to win that game.
