Regular Season Round 18: Estudiantes - Gernika 69-70

Bottom-ranked ASEFA Estudiantes is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 18th consecutive match to fifth ranked Gernika (11-7) 70-69 on Saturday evening. ASEFA Estudiantes was trailing by 10 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 18-15 charge of Gernika, which allowed them to win the game. The former international power forward Maria Pina (187-87) notched 22 points to lead the effort and American guard Ameryst Alston (175-93, college: Ohio St.) supported her with 17 points and 4 assists. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 5 rebounds by American guard Shay Selby (175-90, college: Duke) did not help to save the game for ASEFA Estudiantes. Forward Paula Ginzo (187-98) added 7 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gernika maintains fifth position with 11-7 record. Newly promoted ASEFA Estudiantes still closes the standings. Gernika will meet at home league's second-placed Argon Uni Girona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. ASEFA Estudiantes will play against Gipuzkoa UPV (#6) in San Sebastian and hopes to get finally their first victory.
