Regular Season Round 23: Denso Iris - Toyota A. 67-64

The most exciting game of round 23 in the WJBL took place in Kariya. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Toyota A. (18-5) to third ranked Denso Iris (18-5) 67-64 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyota A.. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 67-64. The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Himawari Akaho (181-98) contributed with 19 points for the winners. The former international power forward Evelyn Mawuli (180-95) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds and forward Mayi Na (181-93) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Toyota A.Four Toyota A. players scored in double figures. Toyota A.'s coach Don Beck tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Denso Iris have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Toyota A. Denso Iris is looking forward to face Toyota B SR (#7) in Aichi in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Toyota A. will play at home against Chanson V-M (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
