Regular Season Round 35: Akita NH - Aomori Watts 86-81

Leader Akita Happinets delivered the thirtieth victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Aomori Watts (8-26) 86-81. They outrebounded Aomori Watts 38-25 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Akita Happinets looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Aomori Watts were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American center Nigel Spikes (208-89, college: Marshall) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Shota Onodera (183-94) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. American forward Joe Burton (201-90, college: Oregon St.) produced a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals and guard Daichi Shimoyama (181-89) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Four Akita Happinets and five Aomori Watts players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Akita Happinets. They maintain first place with 30-4 record. Aomori Watts lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 26 games lost. Akita Happinets will face Yamagata (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Aomori Watts will play against Iwate Big Bulls and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
