Regular Season Round 16: Hapoel Holon - Maccabi Haifa 81-74

Date: February 4, 2018
Very expected game when 12th ranked Maccabi Haifa (4-12) was defeated on the road by second ranked Hapoel Holon (12-4) 81-74 on Sunday. Maccabi Haifa trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 24-18 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-81 at the end of the game. Hapoel Holon made 21-of-22 free shots (95.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Glen Rice-Jr (198-91, college: Georgia Tech) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and naturalized American forward Joe Alexander (203-86, college: W.Virginia) who added 9 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Puerto Rican point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-92, college: Miami, FL) responded with 13 points and 5 assists and international Oz Blayzer (199-92) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Offer Rahimi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hapoel Holon have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-4 record behind leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Haifa lost seventh consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Hapoel Holon will face Maccabi Rishon (#7) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round where they are favorite. Maccabi Haifa will play at home against Ironi Nahariya (#8) and hope to win that game.
