LF2 top team - Gran Canaria (17-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Almeria (4-13) in Las Palmas 77-60. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Almeria managed to win second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Almeria 42-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Erica Covile (185, college: Temple) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Starr Breedlove (168-93, college: UTEP) chipped in 25 points and 4 assists. Bosnian center Samra Omerbasic (191-90, agency: PEPI SPORT) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Alicia Gonzalez (187-86) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Gran Canaria have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group B with 17-0 record. Newly promoted Almeria keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Gran Canaria will meet at home Real Canoe (#5) in the next round. Almeria will play against the league's second-placed Valencia (#2) and hope to secure a win.
