Regular Season Round 14: Panionios - Athinaikos 76-64

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panionios (#3) and Athinaikos (#6). Panionios (11-3) won against visiting Athinaikos (7-7) 76-64. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 76-64. Panionios looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international guard Aikaterini Spatharou (172-83) scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Katie Healy (185-94, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. Panionios' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Hannah Little (185-94, college: Oakland) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Jamee Swan (188-94, college: Colorado, agency: LBM Management) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Panionios maintains third position with 11-3 record having just three points less than leader Olympiacos. Athinaikos at the other side keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Niki Lefkadas. Panionios are looking forward to face Proteas (#9) in Voula in the next round where they are favorite. Athinaikos will play on the road against Esperides in Glyfada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
