Regular Season Round 19: TBV Start - Asseco 78-76

The most exciting game of round 19 in the PLK took place in Lublin. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Asseco (10-9) to fifth ranked Start (12-8) 78-76 on Sunday evening. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 27-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American swingman Chavaughn Lewis (196-93, college: Marist) fired 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import point guard James Washington (182-87, college: Middle Tenn.St.) chipped in 11 points and 9 assists. Five Start players scored in double figures. Start's coach David Dedek used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international guard Marcel Ponitka (195-97) produced 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Jakub Garbacz (197-94) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Start have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 12-8 record. Asseco at the other side dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. Start will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Asseco will play at home against BM Slam Stal (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
