Regular Season Round 31: Pyrinto - Kouvot 78-89

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (15-13) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Kouvot (15-12) 89-78 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they stormed back winning next two quarters and won the game by 11 points. Kouvot looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Thomas Gipson (201-93, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 4 assists (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international Ville Kaunisto (204-82, agency: Court Side) helped adding 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American Brian Asbury (201-86, college: Miami, FL) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import forward Devonne Giles (203-83, college: Texas Tech) scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five Kouvot and four Tampereen Pyrinto players scored in double figures. Kouvot moved-up to fifth place. Loser Tampereen Pyrinto dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. They share it with BC Nokia. Kouvot will meet at home KTP-Basket (#8) in the next round. Tampereen Pyrinto will play against Espoo United and hope to secure a win.
