No shocking result in a game when fifteenth ranked Sturgeons (15-21) crushed 17th ranked Blue Whales (8-28) in Sichuan 131-105 on Wednesday. Sturgeons outrebounded Blue Whales 50-39 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sturgeons made 7 blocks. It was a good game for international Zhelin Wang (214-94) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds. The former international swingman TaiLong Zhao (195-90) contributed with 32 points and 4 assists for the winners. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international point guard Wei Liu (190-80) added 29 points and 4 assists in the effort for Blue Whales. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sturgeons moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Shanxi BD and Jiangsu TX MK. Blue Whales lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 28 games lost. Sturgeons will face higher ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (#8) in Urumqi in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
