Regular Season Round 24: Hitachi SR - Hokkaido L. 64-90

Date: February 9, 2018
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Tokyo where one of their biggest challengers Hitachi Sunrockers (22-14) were crushed by fifth ranked Hokkaido L. (19-17) 90-64 on Friday. Hokkaido L. dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Sunrockers' 44. They outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 36-22 including a 27-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hokkaido L. looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian-Italian power forward Marc Trasolini (206-90, college: Santa Clara) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and American center Daniel Miller (211-91, college: Georgia Tech) who added 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Morihisa Yamauchi (173-90) with 13 points and 4 assists and international point guard Leo Vendrame (183-93) scored 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Hokkaido L. maintains fifth position with 19-17 record, which they share with Tochigi Brex. Loser Hitachi Sunrockers keep the fourth place with 14 games lost. Hokkaido L. will face higher ranked Toshiba Thunders (#3) in Kanagawa in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hitachi Sunrockers will play at home against the league's leader Ryukyu GK and hope to win that game.
