We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mar del Plata where 15th ranked Boca Juniors (6-10) was defeated by sixteenth ranked Penarol (7-11) 79-71 on Saturday. Penarol dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Boca Juniors' 32. The former international center Martin Leiva (211-80) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey) chipped in 18 points. Lamonte is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Marcelo Macias used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Eduardo Gamboa (188-84) produced 25 points and forward Mariano Fierro (200-86) added 8 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Penarol moved-up to fifteenth place. Boca Juniors lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with ten games lost. Penarol will have a break next round. Boca Juniors will play on the road against Quilmes MP (#19) in Mar del Plata and hope to win that game.
